A brewpub rooted in the Carolina foothills, pouring house-crafted beers and seriously good food six days a week.
Newgrass Brewing Co. planted its roots at 213 S Lafayette St in downtown Shelby, NC, and it has been drawing in neighbors, day-trippers, and beer enthusiasts ever since. The name says it all: something familiar given a fresh spin, the way a classic bluegrass melody sounds completely new in the right hands. With a 4.5-star rating built across more than 600 reviews, the proof is in every pour.
The taproom is the kind of place where a Saturday afternoon stretches naturally into evening. Flights let you explore the range, from crisp and approachable to bold and complex, while the kitchen turns out generous portions that hold their own alongside the beer. The collaboration spirit runs deep here, and the results end up in your glass in ways that are hard to find anywhere else in the region.
Sunday brunch, weeknight pints, Friday night energy, this place shifts gears without losing its character. Families come for dinner. Adventurous day-trippers roll in hungry and leave satisfied. Whatever brings you through the door, Newgrass has a way of making the visit feel like it was worth every mile.
The experience at Newgrass Brewing Co. starts with the beer. The house tap list spans styles and moods, and rotating collaborations keep things interesting for regulars who think they have seen everything. Flights are the smart move on a first visit, giving you the full picture before you commit to a pint.
The kitchen takes the food as seriously as the fermentation tanks. Portions are generous, the menu covers ground from shareable appetizers through full meals, and the brunch program on Sundays adds a whole other dimension to the weekend. Whether you are stopping in for a quick bite on a Tuesday evening or settling in for a long Friday night with a group, the kitchen and the bar are ready.
Private events, community gatherings, and spontaneous adventures all find a home here. The space at 213 S Lafayette St is flexible enough to accommodate a range of occasions, and the staff brings the kind of hospitality that turns a one-time visit into a regular habit.
